Pimsleur has taken all the time consuming hard work out of learning a new language by compositing all you need to know onto a set of compact discs. Take them with you in the car, on a plane, or anywhere else you travel. There is no reading, writing, or memorization involved, just a sleek compact box of discs. The Pimsleur way of learning a new language allows you to quickly and easily hold basic conversations in your newly learned language, as well as handle everyday situations (such as ask for directions), arrange travel accommodations, and avoid embarrassment or confusion. There is no software, just the compact discs, that can also easily be downloaded via computer to your mp3 player for even easier transportation and learning.
Pimsleur sent me the Pimsleur Spanish One course that starts at the very beginning of the learning of the language. There are 16 cd's included in this set, and each one includes an hour of language learning. The easiest way for me to listen to these discs is in my car. We regularly take longer drives since we live in a small town and we're over 30 minutes from any decent store for grocery shopping or the like. Each trip allowed me to finish one disc and sometimes start another depending on where we went or how far we actually drove. I found myself retaining bits and pieces of what I had heard at first, and after I had listened to the discs a couple times over, I really remembered much more. Unfortunately I had not been able to test how well I learned my new language in real life, but I felt proud of myself for remembering as much as I did, and often find myself speaking in Spanish to myself when I'm cleaning or getting ready in the mornings.
Overall I'm really pleased with the Pimsleur Approach as a whole, and recommend it to anyone who is looking to learn any new language.
